The recent legislation will eliminate private lenders role in the federal student loan program. That may or may not be a good thing – time will tell. Hopefully, the savings will go to help students and not to pay down the debt and the costs of health care.

However, there are still lenders (banks and private companies) making private (alternative) student loans to help you pay for college. These are non-government subsidized loans so the costs are higher and they may be more difficult to get. However, they are still an option.
